Residents of Kropyvnytsky have been choking for several days from the stench that stands on the streets, and even in houses. The odor is thought to have arisen due to farmers introducing chicken droppings into the fields.
Currently, experts in the laboratory are investigating how safe it is to breathe the air of Kropyvnytskyi these days.
The city seemed to have died out: playgrounds are empty, people leave the house only as a last resort. Asthmatics are especially affected, they cough and suffocate from stench. According to a local resident Maria Baranova, every day with health is getting worse.
City officials spent several days looking for a source of bad smell. Now they assume that for four days the townspeople have been choking due to the introduction of chicken droppings by farmers to the fields.
The farmers themselves do not see anything criminal in their actions. They say that they get feces from poultry farms at a price of 50 UAH. per ton and put them in the ground instead of harmful chemicals. According to farmers, such actions protect the Ukrainian chernozems and preserve their fertility.
Environmental Inspection confirms that these fertilizers do not harm nature, but rather help it. But the safety of such air can be discussed only after the results of laboratory tests.
At a time when townspeople are awaiting the results of air sampling studies, local authorities advise farmers to choose the days when the wind direction changes and it does not bring “incense” to the city for chicken manure.
