The United States National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) calls on the Trump administration to urgently agree on the access of American pork to Japanese markets.
The National Council of Pork Producers expressed the hope that the volumes of this access will be equal to or even exceed those provided by Japan for pork from 11 member countries of the Comprehensive Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership and the European Union.
Negotiations between the United States and Japan aimed at reaching a free trade agreement began earlier this month. Jim Monroe, senior director of relations with the National Pork Producers Council, says US pork producers continue to lose market share in Japan.“American pork is facing obstacles in a number of export markets. The good news is that the United States is currently in talks with Japan, ”Monroe says.
US President Donald Trump noted that US-Japanese trade discussions are going well, and an agreement with Japan can be reached as early as next month. The Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement, also known as TPP11 or TPP-11, is a trade agreement between Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, and Vietnam.
