In addition to the Organic Standard company engaged in the certification of organic production, another 17 foreign certification bodies operate in Ukraine. They certify domestic manufacturers, primarily for exporting products.
About this at an information dinner in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said Alexander Kaliberda, a representative of the Ukrainian-German project "Organic Farming" (SOA).
With the introduction of the new law on organic products, which is expected on August 2, all these foreign certification bodies should be included in a separate list, which will be maintained by the State Consumer Service. At the same time, the expert notes, the introduction of this law is a rather difficult task.
“We need to adopt 12 legal acts that detail the rules for working in the market, certification, and the like. One of them has been adopted so far, the rest are in the process of development, ”he explains.
Caliberda also expressed the hope that the implementation of the law would not entail any significant problems for market operators.
Among the main legal acts, he identified three main ones - this is the order of organic production, the turnover of organic products and the certification procedure. A list of substances permitted in organic farming will also be compiled.
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy will keep a register of domestic operators, a register of certification bodies and a register of organic seeds. Also, products certified by domestic authorities will have their own Ukrainian logo.
