Agro Plus 2006 LLC from Cherkasy region, which produces pork without antibiotics, has stopped the practice of trimming tailings to piglets.
About this during the conference "Pig Complex-2019" said Thomas Brunner, partner-manager of the company "Agro Plus 2006".
“In our opinion, when piglets get everything they need from a sow, they don’t have the desire to constantly fight, and, therefore, the habit of biting their tails does not develop,” T. Brunner noted.
According to Thomas Brunner, three years ago, when the farm had 4 thousand heads of pigs, they resorted to an experiment and stopped cutting the tails of piglets.
According to the traditional technology of keeping piglets, their tails are shortened on the first or second day of their life.
This is dictated by the safety considerations of the piglets themselves, who are aggressive towards their relatives. Often they bite each other's tails, or even bite them off completely.
For information, Agro Plus 2006 has been practicing pig breeding without antibiotics since 2011 using its own Timoshovka system.
Now this system has become known to farmers from Austria, Germany, Canada, Switzerland. More than 40 farms in Switzerland are already successfully working using this system.
