This year's weather conditions have seriously affected the sowing campaign in Ukraine. While some areas suffered from heavy rain and hail, in others there was heat, and landowners hoped for rainfall.
Farmers of a number of regions in the West, North and in the Center of the country complain about the excessive amount of rainfall that impedes the timely sowing work: Khmelnitsky, Vinnitsa, Zhytomyr, Lviv, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Chernivtsi, Kirovograd, Poltava and other areas. There were showers with thunderstorms, and sometimes with hail. Some farms because of this could not sow sunflower, soybeans, corn on time.
Precipitation makes it impossible to timely fertilize early pulses and crops that have already sprouted. Too high humidity poses a great risk for the development of plant diseases such as powdery mildew, root rot and cerebral septoria.Farmer Mikhail Kleshir from the Chernivtsi region says that because of the large amount of rainfall, farms do not have time to sow, cultivate the land and protect the crops. About 70% of the planned areas were not sown. Farmers left to sow sunflower and soybeans. Everything is difficult with the processing of rapeseed and grain.
Some farmers are forced to sow crops, because their showers simply washed away from the fields. Joseph Bomk from the FS "Barda-2007" of the Khmelnitsky region says that many farmers who had sowed crops beforehand washed down the seedlings. Perhaps they will sift.
According to the agrarian, one hectare washed away several hectares of soy. So far, Khmelnitsky agrarians continue sowing, but fear further precipitation, which weather forecasters predict.
Some farmers have to sow crops, because heavy rains washed them away. In the eastern and southern regions of the country, moderate rains took place, and Zaporozhye suffered from drought for a month. According to the director of Ukrlitagro LLC from the Zaporizhzhya region, all crops in the fields literally burned. Therefore, rains for Zaporozhye are very welcome.Ukrhydromettsentr reports that from April 27 to May 6 in the North and West of Ukraine fell monthly, and even a month and a half month precipitation. This led to waterlogging of the topsoil and high air humidity.
