Forty workers from Thailand are quarantined at Bay of Plenty after arriving in New Zealand on Monday.
Nikki Johnson, director general of the New Zealand kiwi farm, said workers were following the Department of Health's requirements and isolated themselves.
Kiwi berry is the result of selection. 100 years ago, kiwi was tasteless, but thanks to the breeding work of New Zealand farmers, it acquired a modern taste.
Johnson said that during this time, farm owners supported their workers, including bringing them food.
None of the Thai workers showed signs of illness that would mean that they should be checked.
Johnson said their health will continue to be monitored in accordance with the guidelines of the ministry.
Ministries have provided self-isolation instructions, and anyone who arrives in New Zealand on Monday from 1 AM from any country, with the exception of countries included in Category 2, will need self-isolation within 14 days.
“Despite the fact that New Zealanders are our key workforce, there may not be enough workers to harvest and pack crops from now until the end of June,” Johnson said.
“They will be supplemented by other workers, such as tourists who have been in the country for some time, or workers from the seasonal production scheme.”
