As the sheep shearing season is approaching in the UK, the National Sheep Association (NSA) reminds farmers and contractors of the need to comply with industry standards and protect their image.
Following the video released last fall by People for Ethical Animal Handling, the NSA, together with industry partners, has developed a practical and consistent set of recommendations for anyone working in the field of sheep shearing.
A list of 29 items aims to make the shearing process free from stress for both people and animals.Phil Stocker, Executive Director of the National Sheep Association, said: “It is absolutely vital that everyone who cuts and any sheep processing work does their job at the highest level. Animal welfare organizations believe that we are shearing sheep only for the sake of profit and do not care about animal welfare. ”
These animal rights groups will take every opportunity to criticize the industry, and even small mistakes made can be extremely devastating and take a long time to eliminate.
