In the world, pork remains the number one meat for a long time, the global volume of its production and consumption is about 112 million tons. A positive growth trend in the production and consumption of this product is observed in Ukraine.

Although pork in Ukraine is still far from the volumes of production and consumption of meat and chicken products, nonetheless, the industry is showing encouraging trends.

The maximum volume of demand for pork in the history of modern Ukraine was recorded in 2013 - 990 thousand tons. However, after the start of events in the Crimea and the East of Ukraine in 2014, as well as the ban on import of Ukrainian pork introduced in 2015 by the Russian Federation, the industry went into crisis - the demand for products fell by almost 20%.

However, already in 2017, the pig-breeding industry of Ukraine began to show signs of positive dynamics, which continue to grow. According to the forecasts of the Economic Discussion Club, in 2019, the production of pork and pig products may reach 750 thousand tons. Club experts also suggest a 1% increase, compared with 2018, in the level of consumption of meat and meat products from pork.
